Service Description

Yin Yoga is a practice that is rooted in the traditions of both India and China, but most prominently comes from Traditional Chinese Medicine. Yin Yoga is a grounded and slow practice meant to balance the busyness of our modern lives, and complement more dynamic yoga asana practices, by encouraging us to find a place of stillness, receptivity, and release. In Yin Yoga we come into postures that place gentle pressure and tension on the physical location of energetic pathways (meridians) in the body. By applying gentle pressure to these areas we work towards releasing stuck or stagnant energy in the body. This can help us to balance our energetic system, as well as our emotions, allowing us to live a more balanced life. The physical postures that are used in Yin Yoga are held for 3-7 minutes, and utilize the natural force of gravity and the weight of our own bodies to encourage a release of muscular engagement. This allows us to gently stress the connective tissues in our bodies, including tendons, ligaments, and fascia. Yin Yoga contributes to our overall health and wellbeing by balancing Yin and Yang energies in the body, improving joint and tissue health, and cultivating emotional awareness.
